General Notes

To fill full-time Day Shift and Weekend Shift for Fire Alarm Systems, and Swing Shift and Weekend Shift for Fire Sprinkler Systems. Additional $299 per month shift differential pay for swing shift only. Hiring decision contingent upon applicant clearing a security background check and receiving an acceptable driver's rating. Responsibilities

  • Perform both routine and preventative maintenance on fire alarm systems. Perform fire alarm system inspections. Assist with fire sprinkler inspections when required. Perform repair, replacement, upgrade and remodel of fire alarm systems. Assist with new fire alarm system commissioning.
  • Support outages, coordinate and work with contractors and other entities and respond and give guidance to emergency personnel. Perform follow-up investigations to assure the proper operation of fire safety systems during actual fires.
  • Keep up to date on all code changes, testing procedures and product knowledge. Read and interpret drawings and technical manuals. Perform work from both written and verbal instructions and in accordance with established safety procedures.
  • Complete paperwork accurately and on a timely basis. Provide equipment information for FAMIS updates. Keep accurate and up to date documentation of all systems.
  • Train others within the shop. Possess and use leadership skills to advance the shop towards its goals.
  • Generate material lists and acquires materials for efficient work. Keep accurate records of materials used and maintains daily time reports to efficiently complete work and document details of the functions performed. Keep accurate and up to date documentation of all systems.
  • Provide timely and courteous customer service, keep supervisors and team members up to date on daily work order status to ensure clear, concise and necessary communication channels are maintained and customer expectations are met. Assist other shops and team members in the accomplishment of shop goals related to key performance indicators.
  • Perform organizing and cleaning tasks to keep work areas safe and efficient. Cleans and keeps electronic equipment and rooms organized. Participates in the On-Call Program.
  • Required Qualifications

    High school graduation or GED. Four years of experience in journey level installation/repair/maintenance/operation of fire alarm equipment with electronic background. NICET Level II certification. Valid Commercial State Fire Alarm License required if not NICET Certified. Must have a valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record.

    Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

    Preferred Qualifications

    Associate's degree in a technical field or equivalent experience. More than four years of the described experience. Experience at the University of Texas or in a university setting. Demonstrated excellent communication skills. Computer experience. Experience with computerized service request system. Demonstrated excellent customer service skills. Proven ability to work with a team of multi-crafted trades people. Graduated from a leadership program. Ability to multi-task. NICET Level III or above certification in fire alarm. Successful completion of the Campus Planning and Facilities Management Leader Development program.

    Driving Required

    This job requires a class "C" operator's driver's license. The applicant selected must provide a current three year driving record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, a Texas driver's license must be obtained within 30 days of becoming a Texas resident. Employees who are required to have a CDL are subject to drug and alcohol testing (pre-employment, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, random, return-to-duty, and follow-up drug and alcohol testing).

    Salary Range

    $47,784 + depending on qualifications

  • 40 hours per week, days & hours to be set with supervisor
  • Weekday options are 5 days at 8 hours per day, 4 days at 10 hours per day with all shifts between hours of 6:00am 4:30pm
  • Weekend shift is set to Friday Monday, 6:00am 4:30pm
  • All shifts may have overtime any day of the week, including holidays
  • Swing shift hours are 3:30pm-12:00am
