POSITION SUMMARY:
Under supervision, learns to evaluate programs for compliance with environmental laws, rules, and regulations and recommend monitoring and corrective/enforcement actions.
JOB SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:
* Inspect facilities that store, handle, and use hazardous materials as regulated by the State Fire Marshal to ensure compliance with applicable laws, codes, standards, and regulations; and issue permits and / or approve licenses for facilities.
* Interprets regulatory issues, technical issues, and analytical data to document compliance.
* Identify corrective actions necessary to bring facilities into compliance with applicable laws, codes, standards, and regulations, and explain these measures to facility owners or their representatives.
Write detailed reports of inspections performed, violations observed, and corrective actions.
* Performs inspections, interviews, technical reviews and recommends enforcement actions as needed.
* Plans and conducts facility audits and inspections.
* Write detailed reports of inspections performed, violations observed, and corrective actions.
* Conduct compliance follow-up inspections to ensure that corrective actions have been taken in cases where violations were found.
* Drafts, modifies and issues permits in accordance with the rules, regulations and established procedures.
* Assist local fire authorities, code enforcement officials, the Fire Investigations Division of the State Fire Marshal's Office, and any other agency in conducting investigations of incidents involving any hazardous materials as regulated by the State Fire Marshal.
* Responds to environmental emergencies and conducts safety evaluations.
* Reviews permit requirements and regulations in order to ensure compliance with state and federal environmental laws.
* Attend training needed in order to maintain current knowledge of regulation, safety, technology of equipment, and properties of hazardous materials as regulated by The State Fire Marshal.
* Performs other related duties as assigned.
Bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology, physics, geology or other natural or physical science or engineering field from an accredited college or university.
