The Future Plant Systems Engineering unit in FDP is responsible for determining notional designs and driving technology development for mechanical and electrical systems for a new submarine. This position will provide an opportunity for the successful candidate to contribute significantly to the technical approach and delivery strategy for the I&C and integrated electrical power systems for a future submarine.
The experienced Electrical Engineer in Future Plant Systems Engineering will use their technical skills and leadership to ensure high quality work is completed as well as providing mentoring for less experienced engineers in the unit. The engineer will be responsible for technology and concept development in Instrumentation and Control and power systems integration in support of a future submarine propulsion plant. The successful candidate will work with stakeholder organizations both inside and outside of NNL to plan and coordinate the long term development of workable concepts for Reactor, Propulsion, and Electric Plant I&C systems and power system integration. The successful candidate will contribute their specific design and operations knowledge in the areas of Generic I&C systems, integrated power systems, power electronics, and shipboard information systems to the overall technology development efforts of the unit. In addition, this position will require familiarity with the design and operation of the mechanical propulsion plant systems as well as the reactor protection systems.
The successful candidate will work independently and as part of a larger team to develop technology concepts, cost estimates and schedules, develop risk mitigation strategies, and recommend course corrections based on their knowledge and experience.
BS degree in engineering or Bachelor's degree in a science related field from an accredited college or university and a minimum of six years of relevant experience; or
MS degree in engineering or Master's degree in a science related field from an accredited college or university and a minimum of four years of relevant experience; or
Currently or previously Shift Supervisor Part I qualified or EDO and two years as EOOW in the Nuclear Operations Program; or
Three years as SRE plus Watch Instructor and Refueling Facility Area Refueling Engineer and Fuel and Barrier Shift Supervisor (ECF only), or SRE qualified and six years of experience
BS degree in engineering or Bachelor's degree in a science related field from an accredited college or university and a minimum of nine years of relevant experience; or
MS degree in engineering or Master's degree in a science related field from an accredited college or university and a minimum of seven years of relevant experience; or
Currently or previously Shift Supervisor Part II qualified or qualified SIT and three years as EOOW in the Nuclear Operations Program; or
Current or previous CRE Qualification, or six years as SRE, or SRE qualified with nine years of experience
Job Preferred Skills
Previous experience in the design or operation of shipboard I&C or electrical systems
Demonstrated experience in leading a team or initiative across organizational boundaries
Demonstrated experience developing complex technical recommendations
Demonstrated experience mentoring less experienced engineers in technical areas and work execution
Demonstrated ability to present technical information to peers and outside organizations, such as Naval Reactors
Demonstrated experience in one or more of the following areas: Development of Reactor Plant I&C systems
Design and development of I&C application software
Testing and qualification of Generic I&C Systems
Design and development of power systems applications
