DESCRIPTION/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Job Description
Hancock Natural Resource Group, Inc. (the Company or HNRG), an investment manager specializing in global timberland and agricultural investments in six (6) countries and an indirect, wholly owned subsidiary of Manulife Financial Corporation (MFC), seeks an Associate Director, Environment and Policy sustainability to support HNRGs commitment to sustainability and responsible investing property management businesses. In this position, the successful candidate will be responsible for directing North American property management certification, environmental services, policy and government relations, and external stakeholder engagement.
The Associate Director, Environment and Policy is an Associate Director,-level function within HNRG and is an integral part of a team of investment professionals, risk managers, and forestry/farm managers. The Associate Director, Environment and Policy will collaborate and coordinate with groups throughout HNRG, particularly Hancock Forest Management (HFM) and Hancock Farmland Services (HFS), as Associate Director, of the Environment and Policy Support Team to support operations related to stewardship of the environment and public policy engagement to advance HNRGs Sustainability and Responsible Investing Program.
Location:
The position is targeted to be located in and established HNRG office in the United States; however flexibility may be granted including consideration of a home office, subject to approval.
Responsibilities:
* Provide leadership to a team of 6+/- environmental and policy professionals through 3+/- direct reports
* Lead engagement in sector trade associations and align policy objectives
* Develop and maintain a strong, service-oriented relationship with HNRG, HFM, and HFS personnel
* Develop and maintain external stakeholder relationships
* Work effectively with federal, state and local governing bodies
* Develop strong partnerships with conservation groups, forestry, and agricultural interests
* Work with HFM and HFS management team to assess and mitigate risks and generate value add opportunities
* Work extensively with conservation, forestry and agricultural organizations, local communities, and diverse other constituencies to shape and advance company positions
* Lead internal HNRG policy development and implementation
* Assist in supporting the coordination of global environment and policy practices and positions
* Support compliance with relevant Manulife, HNRG, HFM, and HFS policies and procedures
* Support internal and external communications efforts on matters of sustainability, stewardship, public relations, and government relations
Requirements:
* Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in forestry, agriculture or natural resource related field with 10+ years of experience
* Direct experience in forestry and/or agricultural sectors
* Preferred experience in public affairs, public policy, external affairs, or related discipline
* Preferred experience in environmental risk management
* Proven ability managing teams
* Proven ability to work with all types of individuals both internal and external to the organization and function well in team settings
* Must have demonstrated strong oral and written communication skills and the ability to apply those skills to contentious issues
* Demonstrated strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects and conflicting priorities
* Must be highly motivated, entrepreneurial and customer service oriented
* Must be able to apply sound judgment in decision making with a strong orientation to detailed and high quality work
* Proficient skills in Microsoft Office applications: Excel, Word, Power Point, etc
* Team player with collaborative skills.
* Moderate travel domestically is expected.
