We are seeking a seasoned mechanical engineering leader to join our team to build the first software defined end-to-end, automated fulfillment system. Be a mechanical leader that serves as a guidepost for the engineering team as the materials handling industry transforms from mechanical to robotic and software-defined. This is a rare opportunity to get in early and partner with all of our cross-functional departments (mechanical, electrical, controls, and software systems) at the mechanical level to work cohesively together as one single complex system. This is a hands on role tackling complex mechanical design issues at scale with the opportunity to create an unprecedented single end-to-end fulfillment system.

Responsibilities
* Serve as final authority on all aspects of mechanical engineering within the company and with our OEMs
* Establish standards for mechanical engineering development, including design methodologies, release practices
* Serve as a role model and mentor for less senior mechanical engineers within the company
* Develop novel mechatronic assemblies from blank sheet of paper
* Perform complex mechanical analysis including mechanism design, FEA
* Develop, track, and be responsible for creating mechanical/hardware engineering requirements from market/business and system requirements
* Contribute both at the individual level and at team level, either with direct and/or matrixed reports
* Develop and follow product development plans for complex systems
* Develop requirements documents and engineering specifications
* Develop Theory of Operations documents
* Conduct design reviews, FMEAs
* Participate in HW and SW design reviews and provide valuable and significant insights
Experience
* BS in Mechanical Engineering
* 15 years working in hardware new product development involving mechatronic systems, automation/robotics
* Experience with large-scale industrial automation a major plus
* Ability to troubleshoot and diagnose problems with mechatronic systems
* Experience leading teams, delegating tasks, creating team schedules, and setting priorities
* Significant knowledge of mechanical design and analysis, drawing standards, mechanical tolerances and stack-ups, fabrication techniques, FEA
* Excellent Solidworks skills; direct experience with creating large assemblies
* Use of PLM and PDM systems
* Deep understanding of product development process
* Experience with optical, proximity, IR, LIDAR, ultrasonic and other sensing technologies typically used in robotics and automation
* Understanding of and experience with various safety and regulatory ( compliance requirements (CE, UL, robot, 13849, 62061, etc)
* Hands-on experience building prototypes
* Experience working in a fast-paced, start-up environment
* Strong communication skills
