As a Lead Principal Consultant, you will support offshore/onshore renewable and storage developers and investors to evaluate the development or Merger/Acquisition opportunities by understanding the risks associated with energy, capacity and ancillary service markets in North America. In addition to providing technical expertise, a successful candidate can demonstrate excellent project and client management as well as commercial skills. This candidate should take great pride in growing new leads into trusted advisory relationships and delivering top service to our customers. The candidate is preferably based in our Dallas, Texas office, however other locations may be considered for a qualified applicant.

Tasks May Include

  • Execute and supervise the Energy Economic service line offerings including, but not limited to:
    • Futuristic basis risk analyses (aka as congestion and curtailment or Transmission Analysis)
    • Day-Ahead and Real-Time market historical analyses
    • Production cost modeling and review of financial agreements such as power purchase agreements and basis hedge agreements
  • Provide technical oversight and quality control of the execution and delivery of work products and evolution and validation of methodologies and study inputs
  • Manage the commercial aspects of the Energy Economic service line including drafting proposals as a response to sole-source or competitive Request for Proposal (RFP), registering the work opportunities in our internal systems, track the service line s and projects financial performance including hourly expenditures, revenue, margin, invoicing and account receivable
  • Grow the sale pipeline and expand the customer portfolio across the North American markets. This includes diligent and timely identification of new business opportunities, leveraging current team capabilities, identifying customer intimacies, and inter-company collaboration
  • Conduct customer visits and actively manage the relationships and act as liaison with select customer accounts
  • Act as Subject Matter Expert (SME) in major ISO/RTO markets in eastern and/or western interconnection and perform QA/QC on related project deliverables
  • Actively attend ISO/RTO market stakeholder meetings and closely follow the ISO/RTOs markets developments and policy changes,
  • Drive innovation in the service line and assist with the team s research goals in terms of development of new solutions, techniques and/or analytical tools to improve the team s performance and grow the service portfolio in response to customers emerging needs


Position Qualifications

Requirements

  • Bachelor s degree in Engineering or Economics required
  • At least 4 years of experience in energy markets and nodal and zonal analysis in a utility, power trading, renewable energy company, or consulting setting required
    • Previous employment in consulting settings and/or renewable companies preferred
    • Ability to leverage existing industry contacts to secure new opportunities on behalf of DNV GL
  • Experience with ABB PROMOD IV required
    • Experience with UPLAN, GE MAPS, and/or PLEXOS preferred
  • Experience with programming languages such as Python and/or Visual Basic preferred
  • Extensive knowledge of major ISO/RTO markets in eastern and/or western interconnect and its planning practices and development activities
  • Understanding of various types of power purchase agreements, basis hedge agreements, and/or any other energy-related financial instruments required
  • Profound knowledge of energy market fundamentals, challenges, and trends
  • Ability to manage and mentor junior team members in technical competencies
  • Willingness to travel up to 20% within North America
  • Strong written and verbal English communication skills
