Scope of Position:

This position is in the Sullivan Park Operations Directorate, within the Laboratory Services Management & Engineering (LSME) Department. The primary function of the department is to provide support for R&D activities by providing professional services in project management, infrastructure engineering, and laboratory space management. This position is responsible for fire alarm engineering, fire alarm drafting, fire alarm programming and maintenance support. The position is also responsible for application of Industry and Building Codes in developing and maintaining life safety systems and processes supporting RD&E. This is an engineering position within the Infrastructure Engineering function with a focus on implementation and sustainability of life safety technology and NYS Fire Code compliance and best practices in order to reduce Corning's liability and protect its employees and property. Through these efforts the Life Safety Systems Engineering (LSSE) group provides improvements in quality, cost, project delivery & safety in support of S&T laboratory operations. A key part of this job is interfacing with facility infrastructure systems owners and Project Managers to enable laboratory space evaluations for process suitability and code compliance. Close relationships with Workplace Services (WPS) Division, the SP Emergency Response Team (ERT) and SP Security are required. The expectation is that this position will proactively engineer and program the building's life safety system to meet requirements and drive life safety systems efficiency improvements. The position also requires significant customer interfacing, involving understanding the customer's processes and needs, negotiating with multiple customers, maintaining good customer relationships, and providing the customer with the most efficient support. This role requires guidance and oversight of internal/external project managers, engineers and trade contractors, including coaching and educating customers regarding life safety requirements.

Day to Day Responsibilities:
Participate and support the department's safety initiatives as Fire Alarm Subject Matter Expert.
Perform programming of the life safety system network.
Develop & implement engineering for fire alarm design as required by fire alarm codes.
Create and maintain fire alarm schematics using AutoCAD software.
Lead LSSE routine work including downloading firmware, software changes, testing assistance, and electrician support.
Maintain processes and standards
Evaluate new technologies for continuous improvement

Travel Requirements: Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time: Typical 7am-4pm Monday - Friday, or as determined appropriate by manager, Weekly On-Call Rotation shared with present staff of seven individuals.

Education and Experience: BS, BT, AAS (Electrical, Controls, or relevant) or Simplex 4100ES Programming Certification. Simplex TrueSite Workstation Programming Certification desired by not required. Minimum of 5 years of experience in Fire Alarm Installation and Maintenance and at least 5 years programming experience.
