This is a TestEvaluation and Support Team contract position (TEST2) contract position at the NASA White Sands Test Facility. This position may be assigned to JacobsTechnology or a teammate company.
Successfulcandidate will serve as an electrical engineer in the NTEC Facilities &Operations Support Department, Design and Project Management Branch. This position involves the practicalapplication of engineering skills to perform facilities electrical engineeringprojects. Meeting with customersand teammates to develop scope of works, design documents, budgets, and performconstruction management.
Thesuccessful candidate will need to have the ability to understand and supportelectrical high (>25KV), medium (25KV-480V) to low (480V-24V) AC powerdistribution systems, emergency power systems, motor control, fire protection,lightning protection, arc flash, grounding, security systems, and fire alarmsystems. Basic knowledge of communications systems, as well as instrumentation &control (I&C) is needed. PLC and Logic are not required but preferred.
He/shewill also assist with preparation of design packages, construction documentpackages, and assist with testing, inspection, and startup of electrical andI&C equipment. The capability to work independently on project assignmentsand to multi-task is essential. A demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft OfficeApplications is required. Additional knowledge of AutoCAD, SKM Power Tool,EST3-SDU and Fireworks software is a plus. Must have excellent verbal andwritten communication skills.
BS degree in Electrical Engineeringfrom an ABET accredited engineering program and five (5) to eight (8) yearsrelated experience, or a MS degree in Electrical Engineering and four (4) tosix (6) years of related experience or a PhD in Electrical Engineering and zero(0) to three (3) years of related experience. Degrees in engineering technologyare not considered to be qualifying for this position. Registered PE licensedin NM preferred. Four (4) years of designexperience required.
UNUSUAL OR SPECIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION
Positioninvolves extended periods of sitting or standing. Physical requirements are:sitting, walking, standing, extensive use of stairs, and access to remotestructures. Typically required to liftand hold up to 30 pounds. Position islocated on a hazardous testing facility; must beable to quickly evacuate buildings in the event of an emergency. May be required to wear breathing protection (respirator),hearing protection, eye protection and other associated personal protectiveequipment.
DESCRIPTION OF WORK ENVIRONMENT
Desk/office work and test area work.Test area work involves standing and directing technical personnel. Position requires individual to travel todifferent areas on site. Walking onuneven terrain including paved areas, gravel/rocks, and dirt/sand is requiredto access various locations on the facility.All work must be completed in a safe manner in accordance with NASA andCompany safety standards.
EQUIPMENT AND MACHINES INVOLVED IN WORK TASKS
Computer workrequired. Use of calculator, printer,fax, scanner, telephone, filing cabinets, and other standard office equipmentis required.
CRITICALITY OF ATTENDANCE
Regular attendance and punctuality is required. Overtime may be required in support of testproject schedules or other priority assignments as determined by management orcustomer needs. Normal working hours arenine (9) hour per day with some flexibility based on pre-approval. A condensed work schedule, allowing alternateFridays off, is typically in use for each two week pay cycle (9-80schedule). Personnel in the branch arecross-trained to allow for normal planned vacation and sick leave.
OTHER ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Knowledge of Microsoft programs such as Word, Excel, and Project isnecessary. Must be able to communicate effectively withindividuals at all levels of the organization.Must work well under pressure to meet deadline requirements. Dress must be appropriate for the positionand not pose a safety risk or hazard to the employee or others in accordancewith NASA and Company policies. Must beable to pass a physical examination (including drug testing) as determined bythe NASA White Sands Test Facility and the Company for the job classification. If applicable to the specific job assignment,must possess and maintain a valid drivers license. Must be a U.S Citizen. Must pass a Federal backgroundinvestigation. Must maintain site accessto NASA facilities and computer systems. Occasional travelmay be required.
