Position Summary: This Environmental Scientist will provide operations support for Bay West; primarily for our commercial property transfer/due diligence services. The candidate must be able to work on fast-paced projects and deliver a quality deliverable that exceeds customer expectations. Most of this work is local to the Twin Cities metro area; however, occasional travel is required primarily in outstate Minnesota and the upper Midwest with occasional overnight stays.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Property Transfer/Due Diligence

* Conduct site reconnaissance visits and complete visual property inspections.
* Order, compile, and summarize environmental database information, aerial photographs, topographic maps, fire insurance maps, and city directories.
* Conduct interviews with property owners, other property contacts, neighboring property owners, and local municipal and county officials to assist in establishing and understanding property histories.
* Prepare Phase I Environmental Site Assessment Reports, environmental condition of property reports, and transaction screen reports.

Environmental Sampling and Project Field Support

* Provide general labor, technical field support on various environmental site assessments; onsite investigations of contaminated soil, sediment and groundwater; excavation oversight; and preparation of technical reports.
* Collect sub-slab, indoor air, and ambient air samples
* Accurately prepare field notes, sketches and other documentation of actions undertaken during site investigation and remediation work.
* Oversee the excavation of contaminated soil during remediation and construction projects.
* When not traveling, actively participate on an Emergency Response (ER) team - one week of being on-call 24/7 every five weeks.
* Communicate effectively with internal and external customers in a courteous and professional manner.
* Provide open communication with Team Leader on ways to improve Bay West techniques, operations, and functions.
* Use technical writing and analysis skills to prepare project deliverables including proposals, project reports, correspondences, and cost estimates.
* Collaboratively work with other staff to problem solve and produce high quality creative solutions for our customers.
* Occasional domestic travel (approximately 10-30%) to perform and supervise field work. Opportunities for more travel are available to those who desire it.

Education, Training, Knowledge & Experience:

* Bachelor of Science degree
* This is an entry-level position; however, internships or related environmental consulting experience will be considered when determining compensation.
* Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record required
* Proficiency using the Microsoft Office suite
* Currently have or willing to obtain a 40-Hour HAZWOPER certification
* Reliable means of transportation on a 24-hour basis
* Strong interpersonal and communication skills both written and verbal
* Experience supporting multiple projects on deadline while providing excellent customer service
* Superb problem-solving skills, time-management, and organizational skills
* Ability to work independently
* Willingness to champion changes and improvements
