ASRC Federal Field Services, a Subsidiary of ASRC Federal Holding Company, is currently seeking an Environmental Specialist at the Plum Island Animal Disease Research Center, located on Plum Island, NY. (1.5 nautical miles off North Fork of Long Island & 6 nautical miles off coast of Old Saybrook, CT). Marine transportation furnished by Gov't provided ferry. Summary: Perform environmental compliance program functions in support of a research laboratory and facility. Ensure applicable training programs, regulatory compliance and schedules are adhered to as relates to facility specific requirements and prescribed policies and procedures. Serve as a liaison to multiple department managers and project support staff and program support. Roles/Responsibilities: > Review, evaluate, and analyze work environments and design programs and procedures to control, eliminate, and prevent disease or injury caused by chemical & biological agents. > Support implementation of an ISO 14001 Environmental Management ; ISO 45001 Safety Management and ISO 9001 Quality ManagementSystems. > Provide direct support in handling of hazardous materials. > Provide direct support to O&M and Federal Environmental Offices in maintaining NYSDEC permits and complying with applicable regulations. > Conduct inspections in order to ensure compliance with safety standards and Government regulations. > Collect data on work environments for analysis by occupational health and safety specialists. > Implement and conduct evaluation of programs designed to limit chemical, physical, biological risks to workers. > Maintain all required records and documentation. > Report the results of environmental contaminant analyses, and recommend corrective measures to be applied. > Ensure appropriate waste management procedures are implemented and followed. > Provide instruction on correct work practices in relation to chemical storage and/or use and other duties specified by your supervisor. > Performs other duties as assigned.
