This position is responsible for preventive and corrective maintenance on plant HVAC systems and maintenance of shop inventory of parts and tools. Additional duties include installation of new HVAC equipment, and modification, retrofit and redesign of existing systems.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Perform preventive maintenance on HVAC equipment per job plan. Utilize test equipment, maintenance manuals, schematics and wiring diagrams to troubleshoot HVAC equipment. Install and remove HVAC components from existing systems. Perform bench and field repair of HVAC equipment. Plan and install new equipment or modify existing installations in a manner that maximizes reliability, minimizes waste of materials, and provides for ease of future maintenance. Utilize oxy-acetylene equipment for brazing and soldering. Utilize refrigerant recovery systems and manage the storage of recovered refrigerants. Prepare discarded A/C units for proper disposal. All of the above functions are to be performed in a safe and efficient manner per ASARCO safety and health policies, applicable codes, and EPA regulations.

Must be skilled in resolving day-to-day questions and/or problems regarding equipment, materials, methods and procedures needed to complete projects. Must be able to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Must be able to sole practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Must be able to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Must be able to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form. Must be able to work any shift, including weekends and holidays. Shifts may be rotating and operations are 24/7/365. Must be able to work in adverse conditions, including climate, temperature and environment. Must be able to work in confined spaces. Requires the ability to manage multiple tasks and troubleshoot problems. Must possess a practical knowledge of MSHA standards and enforcement.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE EPA Clean Air Act, Section 608, universal certification. MSHA certification a plus.
